After three months of trading from temporary premises, audiologist and business owner Nick Raine is delighted to announce the opening of Hear Aberystwyth, a state-of-the-art independent audiology clinic in Baker Street, Aberystwyth, this March.
With 24 years' experience in both NHS hospitals and high street audiology outlets across Wales, Nick has worked in clinical settings and also held senior leadership roles for a major UK and Ireland hearing aid retailer. Now, his focus is on bringing high-quality, independent audiology services to Mid and West Wales, empowering those with hearing loss to make the choices most suitable for them, enabling them to live well and thrive.
A Family-Owned, Independent Alternative

Unlike many high street chains, Hear Aberystwyth is a family-owned clinic, meaning patients receive completely unbiased advice. Not being tied to a hearing aid manufacturer allows Nick and his team to select from a wide range of hearing instruments, ensuring the best solution for your needs. Being local with outlets serving both North and South Ceredigion, advice on hearing solutions is now more accessible than ever before.
Hear Aberystwyth offers free hearing checks for the over 60s and, if needed, full consultation with comprehensive testing and expert advice around the latest hearing aid models. Our generous consultation appointments give us time to understand individual needs. Fitting appointments include taking real ear measurements using advanced hearing aid fitting technology which ensure a good and comfortable fit and that your aids operate as they should, right from the start.

Each hearing package includes six-month check-ups and annual reassessments, to ensure your devices remain effective throughout their service life. Nick recognises the number of people that previously bought hearing aids in Aberystwyth that are now signposted to distant towns for service and maintenance. To assist, Nick is offering ongoing support for those previously left unserved and can also help with advice on retubing and cleaning NHS hearing aids.
Maintaining hearing health for as long as possible is important for us all, so Hear Aberystwyth also offers a full earwax removal service ensuring the safest modern techniques keep your ears clear and healthy. Hearing protection can help reduce the likelihood of future hearing loss, so a full range of specialist plugs are available to protect you from noise exposure be that at work, motorcycling, playing music, swimming or shooting. Comfortable plugs can even help you get an undisrupted night's sleep.
For those who suffer with tinnitus, a condition which can have an extremely adverse effect on quality of life. We are proud to be an exclusive supplier of Lenire® an innovative tinnitus treatment, recently FDA-approved in the USA, which is clinically proven to soothe tinnitus. Hear Aberystwyth is the only clinic in Wales authorised to offer this innovative new approach.
Local Commitment & Bilingual Service

Nick’s vision for Hear Aberystwyth is not just about hearing care—it’s about giving back to the community. The clinic is creating high-quality jobs for local people while also speeding up medical referrals to the NHS where required. We have been working with local businesses such as opticians and pharmacies, creating cross-referral schemes to improve patient outcomes and overall health and well-being in the community.
As a long-time Ceredigion resident, Nick has enjoyed reconnecting with local people—including brushing up on his Welsh language skills! The clinic is proud to offer a bilingual service, with a Welsh-speaking clinic coordinator trained in NHS hearing aid services. This ensures that all patients feel comfortable and supported, especially when discussing hearing loss, which can be a daunting experience. The premises are fully accessible with disability parking outside.
With an additional location in Newcastle Emlyn, Hear Aberystwyth is here to provide long-term support to people in the North and South of the county. So, you’ll never have to travel far for servicing, aftercare, or expert advice.
Don’t put things off any longer—start your journey to better hearing today!
