A CARDIGAN man found with cannabis after inviting police officers into his home and telling them he had something on his coffee table he didn’t want them to see, told officers he wouldn’t let police into his home in the future.
John Charles Elliot, of 10 Rhydyfelin, admitted possession of 0.8g of cannabis found by police when they were in his home on 30 October.
Prosecutor Helen Tench said officers had gone to Elliot’s home on an unrelated matter and 34-year-old Elliot invited them in, saying that there was something on the coffee table he didn’t want them to see.
Officers then found two joints containing cannabis and noticed the smell of cannabis in the property.
Ms Tench said that following his arrest Elliot had told officers that he wouldn’t be answering his door and assisting police in future.
Defence solicitor Alan Lewis said Elliot had cooperated with police and admitted possession of the cannabis.
He said police had no warrant to enter Elliot’s home and had only gone inside as Elliot had invited them in.
Mr Lewis said Elliot had overcome problems with alcohol and had stopped using anti-depressants he had been prescribed, but that he occasionally used cannabis to help him, but realised he shouldn’t do so.
Elliot was given a conditional discharge for six months and will pay costs of £105.
