TALYBONT registered a hard-earned 1-0 midweek win over Padarn United in the Cambrian Tyres Aberystwyth and District League division one, in their last match at Cae’r Odyn Galch field.
In a much improved team performance, a great goal from Chris ‘CJ’ Jones sealed their second win of the season, before moving on to pastures new.
Spokesperson Evan Rowlands said: “Talybont FC thanks all the volunteers who have worked hard towards maintaining the field, especially the groundsmen Anthony Southgate and Wyn Benjamin, and Ioan Beechey and his family for allowing the club to use the field over the past seven seasons.
“The team will play their remaining home fixtures at Blaendolau Fields, Aberystwyth, but we are hopeful we can find a suitable pitch closer to the village ready for the 2018-19 season. “
Bont maintained their 100 per cent record with a 7-0 away win against Borth Reserves, as a hat-trick from Andrew Carree, and two goals each for Dion Davies and David Beck secured their third successive league triumph.
After four successive wins, Tregaron Turfs’ winning run ended with a 2-1 defeat to Bow Street Reserves, who maintained their unbeaten record.
Nick Smith opened the scoring when he fired home into the bottom left corner, and Justin Quinn doubled the lead with around 20 minutes left to play.
The Turfs, who had a man sent off, reduced the arrears through Carwyn Earey, but there was no way back.
Penrhyncoch Reserves registered their first points of the season as goals from Paul Keegan, Steffan Davies and Dave ‘Pluka’ Jones earned them a 3-2 win against Machynlleth Reserves.
In a well-fought match, Mach scored through Mike Price and a first competitive senior goal for Connor Griffiths. In division two, Padarn United Reserves hit back from being four goals down at half-time to register a thrilling 4-4 draw against rivals Penparcau, on their return to the District League.
Penparcau had taken charge with goals by Dylan Bailey, Jason Rees, Steff Faulkes and Lee Morgan, but Padaen came storming back after the break.
Manager Chris Carton made some key changes and Padarn’s second half pressure was rewarded with a well-taken penalty by Graham Thomas.
A neat cross from Nathan Jackson was then converted by James Graham to halve the deficit, and with just a minute to go Graham fired home from outside the box to make the score 4-3.
Padarn kept pushing forward and in the dying seconds they were awarded a second penalty, which was coolly converted by Thomas to complete their stunning second half comeback.
Llanilar Reserves meanwhile launched their division two campaign with a battling 1-1 draw at Llanon.
