LAMPETER Town missed out on a place in the semi-finals of the Costcutter Ceredigion League Cup as they went down 2-0 to St Dogmaels, with key players unavailable to travel.
Carwyn Gregson, Christy Gale and Jason Jones were unavailable, and the North Road men were also without a recognised keeper - but if it wasn’t for stand-in custodian Paul Simmons, the score could have been far greater.
The Saints’ Chris Morgan hit the bar from a Craig Williams cross, and Morgan also had several more efforts saved by keeper Simmons early on.
In the last minute of the first half, however, the hosts were awarded a penalty after Morgan was upended, and Adam Williams fired home.
Lampeter stepped up in the second half, with Luke Lovell and Gethin Davies prominent, but late on Chris Jones latched onto a cross by Williams and his deflected shot flew in from the edge of box to seal the win.
Second division outfit Ffostrasol were beaten 4-0 at Newcastle Emlyn in their quarter-final tie, but it was generally an even game, with the Reds more clinical in front of goal.
The Wanderers created some decent chances, with Dion Phillips going close, but Emlyn opened the scoring when Peter Almond chipped the keeper, and a second soon followed when Daniel Davies slotted home.
A third goal then followed when Dafydd Owens headed in from close range, after a flick on by Almond.
The second half play deteriorated as the pitch became very heavy, but Emlyn managed to poach a fourth goal when Dion Davies hit a shot from outside the box that flew into the net.
In the Costcutter Ceredigion League division one, a Louis Harding hat-trick helped Cilgerran Rovers bounce back following a couple of poor results to defeat New Quay by 6-1.
Harding opened the hosts’ account, and Aaron Williams made it 2-0 after a defensive clearance fell to him on the edge of the box, but the visitors responded just before half time directly from a Charlie Dent corner.
Harding got his second goal with a powerful shot and Tom George killed the game off with a screamer from outside the penalty box to make it 4-1.
Harding completed his hat-trick from the spot, after Dan Bellis had been upended, and it was Bellis who completed their scoring late on.
Veteran striker Gary Davies helped steer Crannog to a hard-fought 5-2 win over Felinfach, with a hat-trick.
Davies smashed home a Chris Welch cross, and this was followed up by a cool finish by George Colven.
Felinfach hit two quick-fire goals, including a penalty, but Davies headed home a cross from Mike Bridges and then steered home for 4-2, before Mathew Smith completed the scoring when he headed in from a corner.
Bargod had their first league win in 15 attempts as goals by Jack Fisher, Jake Kelly and Rhydian Davies sealed a 3-1 win over Aberaeron Reserves.
