Ynyshir Albions 1
JD WELSH Cup, second round
PENRHYNCOCH are through to the third round of the Welsh Cup after an ultimately comfortable win against Ynyshir.
In front of a vocal crowd at Cae Baker it was a pretty even start to the first half and it was the visitors who took the lead on 21 minutes.
A dangerous cross into the area evaded home keeper Leigh Jenkins giving Jamie Price the simple job of tapping the ball in.
Roosters defender Tihomir Trifonov was fortunate not to receive a second caution moments before the hosts drew level on the half four, Geoff Kellaway converting a penalty after being upended in the area.
And the winger almost made it 2-1 as the half drew to a close with a flicked header from a corner which was cleared.
After an equally-contested first 45 minutes the hosts showed their intent after the turnaround with Kellaway just off target after a blistering run and cross by Harri Horwood.
Scott Jones fired into the sidenetting for Ynyshir after good team play but it was Pen who took the lead on the hour, Josh Shaw zipping the ball to Steff Gittins who volleyed home superbly.
The visitors’ chance of a comeback were dealt a blow when Scott Jones was red carded with 10 minutes to go and Pen made them pay with two late goals.
Horwood made it 3-1 with a well-struck free kick and Shaw fired home after latching on to Tom Evans’ cross.
