PENRHYNCOCH have knocked The New Saints out of the Nathaniel MG Cup, beating the Cymru Premier side 2-1.

The Roosters netted either side of half time to seal an historic victory against TNS, who made 11 changes to the team that beat Czech side, Viktoria Plzen, mid-week in the Europa Conference League.

The sides were evenly matched in the first half with the deadlock being broken at the stroke of half time when Penrhyncoch were awarded a penalty following a foul in the area by Morgan Daykin, which was converted by Taylor Watts.

Penrhyn doubled their lead just two minutes into the second half when Ifan Burrell netted from close range.

The New Saints, who handed six players their debuts and had an average age of 18, pulled one back on the 58th minute when Beau Cornish scored following a scramble in the penalty box.

TNS applied the pressure in the second half and the Roosters went down to 10 men three minutes before the end when Garmin Nutting was shown a straight red for a lunge on Lewis Rees.

The Roosters held out for the win with the Cymru North side progressing to the third round of the Nathaniel MG Cup.

They will be joined in the draw by Aberystwyth Town who kicked off their 2021/22 campaign on Friday evening by beating Penybont 5-4 on penalties following a 1-1 draw at Park Avenue.
