PENRHYNCOCH staged a stunning second half fightback to record their second Huws Gray Cymru Alliance win of the season with a 5-2 beating of Caersws at the Recreation Ground on Wednesday.

The Roosters looked to be up against it after conceding early goals from former player and ex-Aberystwyth Town skipper Luke Sherbon and Steve Blenkinsop to trail 2-0 at the half-time break.

But they turned it around in remarkable fashion with a five-goal blast in the second period, with Sion James sparking the fightback when lobbing the keeper from 40 yards.

Jonathan Evans, who missed a couple of first half chances, then levelled matters for Penrhyn, before bagging his second goal to put the visitors in front.

Nashawn Blake’s efforts were rewarded with his first goal for the club and substitute Rhun Garner got goal number five to complete a terrific evening’s work.

Their first away victory lifted Penrhyn up to 11th position, with seven points from six games, three points above the Bluebirds.

"It was a great night for the boys," said delighted boss Gari Lewis.

"In the first half, we conceded from a couple of set pieces, which was disappointing. We were a bit sloppy, but having said that, they were quality deliveries.

"At half time, we talked about staying in the game and trying to come away with a draw, so to I’m chuffed for us to win in the manner we did.

"We showed a lot of energy, pace and enthusiasm, and once we got the first goal, it put us in the ascendancy."

Penrhyncoch will be looking to carry their momentum into this Saturday’s match against Rhyl at Cae Baker (ko 2.30pm).

The Lilywhites, who have drawn four of their seven Alliance matches this season, slipped to their first league defeat with a narrow 1-0 home reverse against Ruthin in midweek.

The league’s leading scorer Llyr Morris scored from the penalty spot after 76 minutes to earn Ruthin the three points.
