LLANDYSUL FC completed the double-double within the Costcutter Ceredigion League this season when their reserve side added the Percy Eldridge Cup to their Reserves Cup success a few weeks ago.
This feat matches the exploits of their first team, who had claimed the Costcutter Ceredigion Division One title, as well as winning the Emrys Morgan Cup recently.
In the Percy Eldridge Cup Final at Ffostrasol on Friday, favourites Llandysul Reserves came storming out of the blocks against Lampeter Reserves, and claimed an early goal when Scott Leask took advantage of a poor clearance.
The Swallows dominated proceedings for the remainder of the half and went 2-0 up when a Danny Williams free kick from well outside the box hit the woodwork and Leask was on hand to fire home.
Lampeter, prompted by the likes of David Clark in midfield, threw everything at Llan for the first quarter of the second half, but with centre halves Ben Williamson and John Jones working well together, they were restricted to long range shots.
The midfield pairing of Iwan Jones and Paul Jones in midfield also worked tirelessly both on and off the ball and didn’t allow their opponents time or space, and their threat was largely cancelled out.
The match was killed off late on when Williams broke through and he was upended in the box, but the referee played an excellent advantage as the ball landed at the feet of Kayne Poultons, who tapped the ball home to seal a deserved 3-0 win.
Llandysul Reserves boss Llyr Jones was delighted for both his team and his club in what has been a remarkable season.
“I felt all the boys put in a huge effort from the word go, with the likes of Paul Jones, Scott Leask and John Evans barely able to walk by the end,” he commented.
“I must also praise our back four, who dealt with everything in front of them superbly, leaving our captain and keeper Dafydd Williams to enjoy a quiet night.
“I am tremendously proud of every player as they produced our best performance of the season, but I would also like to thank all the sponsors and everyone behind the scenes, especially our hard working secretary Ruth Jones for all the hard work she has put during what has been a very successful season for Llandysul.”
Ffostrasol have been crowned as champions of the Costcutter Ceredigion League Division Two, with Pencader runners-up.
Pencader, however, could still end the season with silverware as they take on Llanboidy in the final of the South Cards Cup on Friday at Llandysul (ko 6.30pm).
