LLANDUDNO Albion registered a convincing 4-1 win over Llandyrnog United in Thursday’s Welsh Alliance Mawddach Challenge Cup Final at Conwy Borough.

Conor Davies headed Albion in front from a Bryan Roberts cross to register the team’s 100th goal of the season in all competitions, but Llandyrnog levelled matters through Danny Roberts, before Dan Evans made it 2-1 at the half-time interval with his 15th goal of the campaign.

Albion, who had played six league games in 12 days, showed their stamina as Anthony Marshall netted with a far post header, and Bryan Roberts blasted home a long-range screamer to cap a perfect send-off for manager Paul Cheung, who is stepping down after four years.

Llanberis won the Lock Stock Fire Works Challenge Cup with a 4-0 win over Llandudno Junction, courtesy of goals from Ifan Mansour after 55 minutes, Nadian Huws on 65, Huw Barwick on 78 and an own goal on 85.

Lock Stock Welsh Alliance Division One

BARMOUTH and Dyffryn United enjoyed a last-match win over St Asaph City to end their Welsh Alliance division one campaign comfortably situated in ninth place in the 15-team table.

Well and truly forgotten are the early Spring concerns about possible relegation and the transformation achieved by the team’s late season success surge, crammed into five weeks, yielding 18 out of 24 points.

Carl Ryan’s team secured their final victory against St Asaph by a 2-1 scoreline and that also amounted to sweet revenge for a 5-1 drubbing at their opponents’ ground back in late September.

In the Wern Mynach return, Barmouth survived an early onslaught by the visitors and were relieved on 20 minutes when George Sutherns fired them ahead, after skipping past two defenders to net from 10 yards.

Barmouth’s lead was doubled on 55 minutes by Paul Lewis, who cut inside from the right, similarly beating two markers, and slammed home a winning 15-yarder.

St Asaph trimmed the arrears with Jake Walker’s hammered penalty conversion on 75 minutes, following a hand ball by home player Dave Inglis, but Barmouth had little difficulty in holding out for the points.

Llandudno Albion and Greenfield combined to produce a 10 goal thriller, which enabled the two rivals to bow out as equals in a 5-5 draw at Maesdu Park.

Home team goals were scored by Connor Davies on 35 minutes, Dave Maddox on 44 and 90, Joel Lloyd on 77 and an own-goal immediately after, whereas Greenfield, who led four times, had five marksmen.

On target for the Deesiders were Danny Henley on five minutes, Shaun McHugh on 40, Danny Calvert on 58 from the penalty spot, Sam Jones on 84 and Connor Hughes on 88.

Llanrug United and Llanrwst United also figured in an lively draw, the score at Eithin Duon being 3-3.

Goals for the home side were netted by Dylan Owen on 54 minutes and 64 from a penalty, and Carl Griffiths on 83, as against the visitors’ Morgan Owen on 19, Sam Roberts on 36 and Chris Beardmore on 90.

In midweek, Mynydd Llandegai had triumphed 2-0 against Llanrug Utd, courtesy of goals from Liam Willington on 10 minutes and Jamie Whitmore on 79.

Lock Stock Welsh Alliance Division Two

BLAENAU Ffestiniog Amateurs’ long season came to an end with a 4-1 defeat at Meliden on Saturday, which saw them end their Welsh Alliance division two campaign well clear of relegation after their good results in the past few weeks.

There was never really a chance of ending their season on a winning note though, as the hosts were in control from the very start.

Matthew Griffiths opened the scoring with just six minutes played, and though the visitors tried their best to get back into the match Griffiths made the scoreline 3-0 with two further goals after 24 and 36 minutes.

The match was more or less won by the Clwyd side at the interval, and although both sides had their chances after the break, Griffiths went on to net a fourth goal.

The Amateurs, however, did have something to cheer about when Keiron Ellis netted a late consolation.

Llannefydd beat Bodedern Athletic 2-1 with goals from Elgan Roberts on 60 minutes and Jared Jones with the winner right on 90, after Ricky Jones had netted an equaliser on 78 minutes.

Y Felinheli hit back to beat champions Prestatyn Sports 2-1 with goals from Gruff John from the penalty spot on 37, and Dylan Jones with the winner on 60 - after Tom Court had opened the scoring for the visitors on 17.

In midweek Bodedern Athletic had beaten Pentraeth 2-1 at home with goals from Steven Whittaker on 19 minutes and Liam Hughes on 17. Pentraeth’s Gwyndaf Hughes equalised at one stage on 54 minutes.
