PWLLHELI, twice past winners of the Mawddach Cup, or Barritt Cup as it was known then, had their active interest cut short in the first round by visitors Bodedern Athletic, who notched a 2-1 win at Recreation Ground.

The Welsh Alliance division one title chasers opened the scoring on 15 minutes through Shaun Jenkins, but Jake Jones equalised on 35, before Bodedern’s Dafydd Jones hit the winner on 68.

Both teams were reduced to 10 men in the closing stages, as referee Terry Williams thrust the red card at Pwllheli’s Gareth Jones-Evans and opponent Richard Williams following a scuffle.

Pwllheli’s stalwart defender Martin Smith went close to levelling matters, but he put the ball inches wide.

Llandyrnog United, last season’s losing finalists to Llandudno Albion, were eliminated on their own ground by Llannefydd, whose only goal came from Ali Stubbs on 72 minutes.

In the Lock Stock Welsh Alliance division one, Llanrug United dominated 4-0 against Llandudno Junction at the Crossing ground to move second in the table.

Gwyn Lloyd Jones opened the visitors’ account after just three minutes, before Terry Jones got the next goal on 23, Gwyn Jones added the third on 40 and Llion Jones made it 4-0 on 55.

It was the same scoreline for Mynydd Llandygai at home to Greenfield, as Andy Barker netted a treble on 29, 56 and 60 minutes, followed by Craig Whelan after 80.

Llanberis beat Prestatyn Sports 3-0 at their Ffordd Padarn home, thanks to a last half-hour blitz inflicted by David Jones on 60 minutes, Gethin Wakeham on 72 and Jones again on 89 minutes.

Llandudno Albion edged a 4-3 win over Llanrwst United, and the home team’s scorers were Dave Maddox on eight minutes, Peter Jones on 34, Dan Evans on 62 and Ricky Jones on 70 minutes.

Llanrwst netted through Callum Parry on 30 minutes, Sam Roberts on 56 and Parry, with his second, on 71.

In division two, Amlwch Town lost 5-0 at home to Pentraeth, with Josh Owen scoring on 15 and 81 minutes, Iwan Williams on 46, Ryan Woods on 53 and 66.

Alfie Caldecott fired a hat-trick as Penmaenmawr beat Mochdre Sports 5-1, with Harry Benson and Mike Lumstram also netting goals.

Lock Stock Van Hire Challenge Cup

BLAENAU Ffestiniog Amateurs slipped to only their second defeat of the season as they lost 2-0 at Gaerwen in the Lock Stock Van Hire Challenge Cup first round.

Both teams created chances, but it was the home side that took their opportunities either side of the interval.

Dylan Williams opened the scoring in the final minute of the first half, and the hosts doubled their lead just two minutes into the second half through Connor Gordon.

Kinmel Bay marched on with a 3-0 win over Aberffraw, courtesy of goals from Ryan Hassett on 20 minutes and Anthony Colquit, with a brace on 56 and 78 minutes.

Llannerchymedd hit back to beat Glan Conwy 2-1, with quick-fire goals from Lewis Connor on the hour and Tomos Jones four minutes later, in response to Jordan Phillips netting on 59.

Y Felinheli notched a 2-1 win over Holyhead Town, with first half goals by Griff John on 29 minutes and Iwan Edwards on 38, after an early opener by Joe Donavan.
