THIRD-placed Dolgellau are still winless on their travels in the Spar Mid Wales League division two this season, but they came away with a creditable 1-1 draw from Churchstoke.

Max McLaughlin’s opening goal on the hour was quickly cancelled out by an equaliser by Dolgellau sub Tom Carr, but both sides rued missed chances as the honours ended even.

The home side started brightly and early chances saw Omer Bozdag set up Andrew Green, whose low drive forced a save from Darren Andrews.

Bozdag then beat the offside trap, but when Andrews hit his clearance straight at the forward, he had to use his hand to prevent it returning the striker - but the referee waved play on.

A minute later, Joe Haycock appeared to be tripped, but once again the decision went Dolgellau’s way.

The home side’s pressure continued as Bozdag crossed from the right for Green, who headed inches wide, and a minute later Neil Yapp had a free header that Andrews palmed over.

At the other end, David Edwards played in Dominic Thomas, but keeper Nick Lewis saved his effort from a narrow angle, and Thomas set up Edwards with just Lewis to beat, but he clipped the ball over the crossbar.

Jamie Betton hit the side-netting for the hosts early in the second half, but on the hour the deadlock was broken.

Max McLaughlin beat the offside trap and he fired low from the edge of the box, into the corner of the net.

Dolgellau, however, hit back within five minutes when a Ryan Thomas free kick from the right was played in to the feet of Jon Sutton, and he back-heeled for substitute Tom Carr to side-foot home from just eight yards out.

At the other end, Betton crossed for Haycock, who headed over, whilst for Dolgellau an excellent flick from Edwards sent Dominic Thomas clear, but he shot over, again from a tight angle.

Edwards then set up sub Dion Jones, with Lewis saving his effort, whilst Betton shot wide at the other end.

Then, two minutes from time, Haycock played a neat ball in to McLaughlin, who turned well only to see his effort hit the post from 12 yards out.

Dolgellau’s Dion Jones, on the break, then set up Ryan Thomas, but from a narrow angle he hit the side-netting.

Aberystwyth University’s good run was halted as they slipped to a scrappy 2-1 defeat away at Builth Wells.

A testing pitch made life tough for both sides, but Builth forced a two-goal interval lead with goals from Charlie Boucher and Liam Ryland.

Tom Spicer reduced the arrears in the second half, nodding in from a Matthew Hunton cross, and he went close to levelling with one header clipping the bar and another just wide.

The Wellmen, with youngster Ryan Powell putting in a man of the match performance, held firm for their first back-to-back wins since September.

Kerry maintained their charge for the Spar division two title as they moved 12 points clear at the top with their 12th successive win, with a 4-0 triumph over a battling Four Crosses.

Top scorer Luke Mumford took his tally for the season to 21 goals, including nine in the last three games, with a brace, whilst Mark Hughes and Daryl McWatt also got on the scoresheet.

Abermule eased to a 5-0 win at Penybont, courtesy of goals from Charlie Humpreys, with a brace, Ryan Evans, Gethin Stephens and 16 year-old Jack Weaver, with his first senior goal.

Two goals by Alfie Stonefield earned Newbridge a 2-0 win at Llansantffraid Village, whilst a Tom Foulkes penalty ensured that Dyffryn Banw drew 1-1 away against Presteigne St Andrews, who scored through Kieran Lusher.
