Caitlin Meredith and Freya Inman are both dedicated catering students at Coleg Ceredigion, and are making waves in the world of culinary arts as they prepare for the WorldSkillsUK competition in Manchester.
Caitlin’s passion for cooking, which began at a young age, has driven her to pursue her dreams in the kitchen. "I’ve been cooking all my life since I was little, and it’s what I’ve always wanted to do," Caitlin shares, reflecting on her love for the craft.
Freya’s love for cooking has been a lifelong passion, one that began during her school years, Freya said: "I enjoy it because when I was in school, I used to do catering, and it’s always been something I’ve loved and wanted to do." This passion has driven her to continue developing her skills and competing in the culinary arts.
Now, as they prepare to compete in culinary arts, Caitlin and Freya feel a mix of excitement and nerves. "I feel nervous, definitely, but very excited. It's a great opportunity," Caitlin said. Freya admits she’s also feeling a mix of emotions, saying: “I’m pretty nervous as it’s our first real competition since Cardiff, but it’s exciting to get to know people and start the journey”
The opportunity to showcase their skills is a huge milestone, and Caitlin admits she was both surprised and thrilled when she learned she had advanced in the competition. "When I found out that I was going through, I was definitely shocked and surprised, but was really happy about it,” she said.
Caitlin and Freya will be heading off to compete at the WorldSkillsUK competition in Manchester on November 18.
