AS part of the Buy Local Gwynedd scheme, which aims to support independent local businesses and urges people to buy locally, a joint competition was held between Gwynedd Council and Portmeirion for primary school children to design a recipe using Welsh lamb and local produce.
The tasty competition was judged by the distinct chef, Dudley Newbery and the first prize was given to Liam and Alfie from Ysgol Eifion Wyn, Porthmadog’s lamb chops and ginger chilli recipe.
As part of the recent official Buy Local Gwynedd launch in the Portmeirion Food and Crafts Festival, the winners were given the opportunity to cook their winning recipe in the exhibiting tent following Dudley’s lead.
As a prize for their efforts, the school received £250 through the kindness of Portmeirion.
Cllr Mandy Williams-Davies, Economy Cabinet Member for Gwynedd Council, said: “It’s great to see such support for the ‘Buy Local Gwynedd’ scheme growing and by introducing children to competitions like this in a fun, create way, it raises their awareness of the importance of buying locally and a fantastic way of exhibiting the wonderful produce that we have on our door step. We hope that the scheme will go from strength to strength.
