A WELSH speaker from Borth with a background in outdoor education has been at the helm of a mid Wales charity since 2013, but her association with Tir Coed goes back further than that.

Ffion Farnell was working in Devon when she was lured back to Ceredigion.

“I moved back to Ceredigion in 2009 after developing a project managing outdoor education projects in Devon,” she explained.

“I quickly became involved with Tir Coed and in 2010 started working as a support worker with the WICKED Project. Then I took on the post of development officer in 2012.”

After Ffion secured the £500,000 VINE Project, she was appointed director in 2013.

Giving an overview of the charity’s history, Ffion said: “Tir Coed was originally set up by a number of public sector organisations, becoming a registered charity in 2007 working to improve lives through woodlands.

“In recent years Tir Coed has focused on achieving its objectives by working with disadvantaged people, making real positive changes in peoples’ lives.

“Tir Coed now has nine years’ successful experience of offering accredited skills based experiences for volunteers which not only benefit the participants, but also improve the facilities, access and biodiversity of local natural environments for the benefit of the community."
