A GWYNEDD vicar is to swap the Dysynni Valley for the Llyn Peninsula.
The Bishop of Bangor, the Right Reverend Andy John, has announced that Rev Janet Fletcher will be associate vicar in the Bro Enlli Ministry Area, which serves the communities around Pwllheli, Llanbedrog and Aberdaron.
Janet will move from her present role as associate vicar in the Bro Ystumanner Ministry Area, which serves communities around Tywyn and Aberdyfi, to live in Aberdaron, at the western tip of the Llyn Peninsula.
Janet will continue to combine her ministry in Bro Enlli with her role as the Diocese of Bangor’s spirituality officer. She is a published author, as well as writing the Diocese of Bangor’s highly-regarded books for Advent and Lent.
Looking forward to her move, Janet said: “I have enjoyed being a part of Bro Ystumanner and I take with me many happy memories of the people, churches and places.
“It was a wonderful surprise to be asked to become the associate vicar in Bro Enlli. I am looking forward to this next step in my ministry, and to discover what I can bring to the ministry area. Moving to Aberdaron, I hope to explore the work of RS Thomas and Jim Cotter more, to see how they can further inspire me in my own writing.
“Within my diocesan role as spirituality officer, I will now have the additional challenge a brief on pilgrimage, where, alongside others, I shall be working on the route from Bangor to Bardsey.“
Rev Nigel Adams, area dean of the South Meirionnydd Synod, said: “The people of Bro Ystumanner will be sorry to see Janet leave, because her ministry has been very much appreciated.
“She also has dealt with all the administrative issues that arise when there is a vacancy in a ministry area and I have been very grateful for that.
“Everyone recognises the importance of the work she does as diocesan spirituality officer and we are pleased that she will be continuing in that role.
“Our thoughts and prayers will be with her as she moves to this new phase in her ministry. She will still be with us in a very real way when we use the books which she produces.”
