Madam,

We now have a brand new shopping site in Aberystwyth with a Tesco superstore and a much-needed Marks and Spencer’s. The site has been very well designed and the road outside has had a new layout to cater for traffic in general, with a purpose-built bus stop with high rise kerbs. It also looks good too.

On Monday of last week I caught the T1 bus as usual from Morrisons and asked to go to M&S. I was told quite firmly by the driver: “We don’t stop at M&S because it’s too dangerous. I will drop you off at the stop before or the one after (which is the Terminus)”.

I got off at the stop before M&S (the old Arriva depot) and walked up to the next bus stop which is outside M&S. I looked at the bus bay and shook my head, wondering how on earth did we win the Second World War!

Hundreds and hundreds of ships loaded with thousands of men carrying rucksacks filled with equipment and sailing in gale-force conditions carried out D-Day operations in Normandy (in darkness). And yet a T1 bus will not now stop outside M&S on a lovely Monday morning in Aberystwyth! Why not?

How come that after all these months since the shops opened they have decided it is dangerous?

What on earth is now wrong with this bus stop? It must have cost a good few thousand pounds to build and I just don’t get it!

Yours etc,
