ONE man and his dog have visited Aberystwyth as they continue their 7,000-mile litter-pick around the entire UK mainland coastline.

After setting off from Knott-end-on-Sea, Lancashire, on 1 February last year, Wayne Dixon and his Northern Inuit dog Koda arrived in Aberystwyth last week and got straight down to doing a litter-pick with volunteers from Aberystwyth Beach Buddies.

Wayne, 45, and Koda, who have been camping along the way, arrived in Borth on Tuesday, 25 April, before walking the coastal path to Aberystwyth on Wednesday, where a welcome was held at the bandstand.

After a litter-pick on North Beach, Wayne and Koda stayed in Aberystwyth on Wednesday night before joining a beach clean at Tan-y-Bwlch Beach by ABB on Thursday.

Wayne is recording all the litter he finds as he travels around the UK.

He is fulfilling a lifelong ambition by walking around the coast of Britain, inspired not only by Keep Britain Tidy and the Clean for The Queen campaign, but walking in memory of his late father, John, who passed away in 2012.

Wayne and his dad did many long-distance walks together, and had started to walk sections of the British coast a couple of years before John died.

Wayne is also raising money for the mental health charity Mind and the Northern Inuit Dog Rescue Society.
