A CWMSYCHPANT woman has spoken of her shock after having a close encounter with a wild boar on a remote back road.

Nia Pollock was a passenger in a car driven by her mum, Ray Jenkins, when they spotted a large animal on the nearside verge during a trip to Carmarthen.

Realising it was a wild boar – which were hunted to extinction 400 years ago - quick-thinking Nia grabbed her mobile phone and was able to shoot a few seconds of shaky video footage of the creature (see below) as it trotted past her window before disappearing into the night.

Although the incident happened a few months ago, Nia only decided to go public with it this week following other reports of wild boar in the area.

“We couldn’t believe what we were seeing,” the Western Power Distribution team support worker told the Cambrian News.

“I was trying not to panic while at the same time keeping my phone steady, but I managed to get some shots of the boar as it trotted past to my left.

Farm worker Jack David Jones, 24, told how he had spotted a boar in Llanfair Woods.

Llandysul community councillor Tom Cowcher confirmed there had been other sightings.

Local county councillor Peter Davies has raised the issue with Ceredigion County Council.

“Some action should be taken as wild boar pose a risk to walkers and, indeed, to those living in Capel Dewi,” he added.
