A PLAN to develop a building waste recycling facility at Comins Coch will have a major effect on road safety at a pinch-point in Llanbadarn where a schoolboy was knocked down by a car, a councillor has warned.
An application has been submitted by K L Hughes and Sons Ltd for the development of the inert waste recycling facility at Troedrhiwgwynau farm, which will see at least 10 journeys by large HGVs to and from the site on the Llanbadarn to Capel Dewi road every day.
Inert waste includes gravel, sand, and stone and would be brought to the site - located to the east of Comins Coch - sorted, compacted and shipped out again.
Llanbadarn councillor Paul James, who has already warned of traffic chaos and safety concerns on Primrose Hill following an application for an extra 42 houses in the area, said the plan causes “great concern”.
“If this development is approved, extra heavy traffic would be generated,” he said.
“I have spoken to Ceredigion Highways Department who inform me that this application will be sent to engineers so that a traffic impact assessment can be carried out. In my opinion this road will not be suitable.
“Traffic has increased ten-fold on Primrose Hill and only the other day we had a serious accident where a young boy was badly injured on his way to school. We have also had a number of near misses and the next time could be a fatal.”
A transport assessment on behalf of the developers, however, said that the extra traffic would “not impact on the performance or safety of the public highway network.”
