A TEAM of cadets from Tywyn have enjoyed an “absolutely amazing” day out watching a Trooping the Colour event in London.

On Saturday 28 May, the Clwyd And Gwynedd Army Cadet Force (AFC) Tywyn detachment were in the UK capital to witness the prestigious military ceremony.

The official Trooping the Colour is an impressive display of pageantry which will take place on Saturday, 11 June and will include the Queen’s personal troops, the Household Division, on Horse Guards Parade and Her Majesty the Queen herself attending and taking the salute.

However two weeks before the main event the Major General’s Review, which the Tywyn cadets witnessed, took place as a practice event.

Tickets for any Trooping the Colour are notoriously difficult to get hold of so the group was thrilled that ten tickets were made available for the youngsters to attend.

The event was made all the more special when the Tywyn detachment, joined by a couple of youths from Anglesey, turned up early enough to secure front row seats.

Elys Hughes, 14, has been an Army Cadet for approximately three years.

She said: “I hadn’t been to London for quite along time so it was special to go back.

“You could really feel the atmosphere, it was all so fast paced.

“It was absolutely amazing, everyone who participated were just so precise and efficient, it made me feel jealous!

“It inspired me though, I really want to join the King’s Troop, Royal Horse Artillery when I’m older, they were definitely the best bit of the day.”
