TRIBUTES have been paid to a former town councillor who was a “force for good” after he passed away last week.
Jonathan Roberts, who served as a councillor on Pwllheli Town Council between 2004 and 2016, was a well-known and well-respected figure in the town.
Despite struggling with ill-health for many years, in particular with his heart and kidneys, he remained a forthright voice for the town, especially for vulnerable people within his community.
He passed away last Thursday.
Close friend and former council colleague Ffiona Adams was heartbroken following the death of her “confidante”.
“I actually saw him the day before he died, he looked in better health then than he had done in a long time,” she said.
“He was a great guy and a good friend. He was always somebody I looked up to and one of the reasons I joined the council in the first place, he was such a support.
“He worked so hard for the town, he spent hours working on Hwyl yr ?yl but never looked for any of the credit.
“He was very good friends with the clerk Robin Hughes, who also passed away recently, and between them they were a force for good in Pwllheli.
“Jonathan was always willing to lend an ear and, even from his hospital bed, would always be a confidante and a thoughtful speaker.
“I’m genuinely gutted by his death. My thoughts are with his family and friends. He fought until the very end.”
Pwllheli mayor Eric Wyn Roberts remembers Cllr Roberts fondly.
“Jonathan was first elected on 10 June, 2004 and served on Pwllheli Town Council until 2016,” he said.
“Although he suffered many years with ill-health, he was one who was not afraid to voice his opinion strongly on numerous traffic, parking matters and of any unfairness towards Pwllheli by any officer or council.
“He continued his interest in Pwllheli matters after leaving the council.
“It was always a pleasure to discuss matters with Jonathan and made one reflect on his opinion.
“My sincere condolences to his family and friends at this sad time.”
