A GRIEF-STRICKEN wife has spoken about the loss of “a fabulous daddy and a wonderful husband”.

Peter Kay, 62, passed away surrounded by his loved ones at his home in Dolgellau on 3 January after suffering from a Grade 4 inoperable and incurable brain tumour.

The death of the popular furniture-maker has upset the whole community which gathered together before Christmas to raise over £10,000 to support Peter and his family as he coped with his condition.

He leaves behind his wife Olwen Kay and four-year-old daughter Elena.

Pete spent much of his last years helping to raising over £9,000 for the Child Growth Foundation, as his daughter has a condition known as Russell Silver Syndrome which caused her to develop at a slower rate than her peers.

Olwen is heartbroken but pleased that her husband had influenced so many people throughout his life.

“On 3 January Pete passed away peacefully at home in Dolgellau with me,” she said.

“He really was a fabulous daddy and a wonderful husband.

“We love him dearly and he leaves us with amazing memories but there will now forever be a huge gap in our lives.

“What gave Pete great comfort following his diagnosis was the love and support that our family, friends and community showed us.

“He knows that Elena and I will be well cared for and that he was highly thought of.”

Dolgellau has banded together in support of the Kays, hosting fund-raisers, online petitions, and renovating the family home.

“I can’t say how tremendously grateful I am for the love and support our community has shown us during these recent months,” added Olwen.

“Local tradesmen gave their time to adapt the house ready for Pete’s return and businesses donated items to be used in those adaptations.

“This made Pete’s final weeks comfortable and stress-free.

“The girls from Seashells and Hospice At Home, or Team Cariad as Pete called them, were amazing and his GP truly is an angel.

“No-one could or can make it better but these little things make it a bit easier.

“We love you to the moon Pete. Until we meet again my gorgeous man.”

A funeral service will take place at Aberystwyth Crematorium on Monday, 14 January at 12pm.
