A SPECIAL event to raise awareness of moths could be the first of many to be held in Machynlleth, organisers have said.
Peter Williams, of the Montgomeryshire Moth Group, said the event, held on Saturday, 9 July, was a success and saw over 50 different species recorded.
The event, which was held at the Bro Ddyfi Community Gardens, saw around 15 people take part despite bad weather.
Mr Williams said: “The main object of the group is to enlighten local communities around Montgomeryshire about the wonderful world of moths, as mostly these mainly night flying fabulous creatures are never seen.
“Unfortunately the evening was rather wet, which does rather tend to put people off from attending, however 15 people did brave the conditions for what turned out to be an excellent evening of mothing.
“As far as the weather was concerned we had heavy showers interspersed with drizzle throughout, but it was very mild and humid which is very good as regards the moths being active."
