Two aspiring chefs from Pen Llyn have won a place in the next round of the Rotary Young Chef competition.
Cian Pritchard from Ysgol Glan y Mor, Pwllheli, and Keirion Williams, a Coleg Menai student from Nefyn, impressed the judges.
They will face young chefs from north Wales, northern England and the midlands, at Stratford upon Avon on 7 March.
Cian faced strong competition in his previous heat, which took place at Ysgol Botwnnog.
There, judge Chris Chown of Plas Bodegroes judged Cian to be the winner in a very close contest with Esme Griffith of Ysgol Botwnnog. This led to Cian representing Ysgol Glan y Môr in the District final at Coleg Cambria, Connah’s Quay, last Saturday, 8 February.
Keirion, who is working towards a Level 1 Catering qualification at the Coleg Menai’s Bangor campus, scooped second place, securing himself a place alongside Cian.
The Young Chef Competition is a well-established and successful competition organised and promoted by Rotary International in Great Britain & Ireland.
Coleg Menai hospitality and catering lecturer Gerallt Williams said: “We are extremely proud of Keirion’s achievements, and pleased that his talents are being recognised. Cookery is a passion, and Keirion puts his heart into every dish he creates. We wish him well next month in Stratford.”
Manager Fran Davies added: “Keirion did such a good job at the District Final that his dishes were complimented by one of the judges, Bryan Webb of Tyddyn Llan in Corwen – who is also a Michelin-starred chef and who was once offered to work for the legendary Michel Roux! Keirion obviously made a fantastic first impression!”
