A MAN from Bala has been named Student of the Year 2018.
At the Royal Welsh Show it was announced that Glynllifon level 3 agriculture student Dafydd Davies from Parc, near Bala had won the award.
This is the second year running that a Glynllifon student has taken this accolade, with Caitlin Jones from Anglesey winning the title in 2017.
Dafydd, who also recently won the ‘European Young Shepherd for 2018’ Ovinpiades competition title in Paris, is clearly a talented young man and one to watch in the future as he leaves the college and heads a step closer towards his career in farming, it was said.
Commenting on the award, Dafydd said: “I feel very proud that I have won this award, all the hard work over the past two years has paid off. I am very grateful to the college for their support and for the opportunities they have opened up for me.
“I really enjoyed my time in Glynllifon, making new friends and learning lots about new methods within the agriculture industry.
“Lectures were so informative and I gained not only knowledge but hands-on experience in new farming methods.
“I particularly enjoyed the two periods of work experience I had during lambing time.
“College staff were knowledgeable and highly educated in their field, teaching relevant and contemporary information. I am very grateful to them for the opportunities they shared with us.
“I am now set to study agriculture at degree level at Aberystwyth University in September."
