TYWYN’S controversial new solar farm is now operational.
On 31 March, Novus Solar Development switched on its 2.8 Megawatt solar array located at Morfa Camp, Tywyn.
When the proposal was launched there was concern within the community about the aesthetic impact the project might have, but after a series of local meetings with the project managers, the solar farm was granted planning permission.
The 15-acre solar array, constructed in eight weeks on the site of an old RAF base, will produce enough solar electricity to meet the demand of approximately 750 homes.
Ed Jessamine, director of Novus Solar Developments, said: “Because of the proximity of the array to Tywyn, we couldn’t have progressed with this project without the backing of the local community.
“So we are very grateful to the town council and community of Tywyn for having the vision and social responsibility to support this development which undoubtedly has the most stunning backdrop of any project we have built.”
