SURFERS are out in force this week clearing up litter from beaches in Ceredigion.
Surfers Against Sewage and environmental group Parley for the Oceans are involved in the biggest-ever SAS Big Spring Beach Clean to help stem the ever-rising tide of marine litter and will be recycling any plastic found.
On Monday, volunteers cleared rubbish from the beach at New Quay and on Sunday, 17 April, volunteers are asked to meet at the Hut Café on South Beach, Aberystwyth, and the RNLI station in Borth at 12pm.
Organisers say there’s no need to register.
The Big Spring Beach Clean continues to grow each year and is now the single biggest week of beach clean-up activity in the UK.
Surfers Against Sewage and Parley for the Oceans are collaborating on a global level to implement the Parley A.I.R. Strategy and collect and recycle plastics collected on beaches.
Hugo Tagholm, chief executive of Surfers Against Sewage, said: “Surfers Against Sewage is delighted to be collaborating with Parley For the Oceans, and engaging communities with projects to stop the flow of plastic into our seas. The single-use plastic vandalism of our coastlines has to stop and plastics valued as a resource we can’t afford to let accumulate in the marine environment.”
