A former Ysgol Glan y Môr pupil recently asked the headteacher if the school could support her in her fundraising for a mental health charity.
Headteacher Menai Jones said the Pwllheli school was happy to help Stacey Owen, 21, and for one day the pupils attended school wearing their own clothes for a small payment which went to Mind.
A total of £300 was raised and Stacey was very grateful to the school for their support.
Stacey is now a third-year student at Bangor University and is studying Psychology.
She recently decided to join a group of other students from the university who are going to walk up Kilimanjaro in September to raise money for charities.
The plan is to fly out on 3 September and the following day start their six-day adventure; four days will be needed to climb up and the other two in coming down the mountain, a dormant volcano in Tanzania.
It’s quite a feat that awaits Stacey and the rest of the group as Kilimanjaro measures in at 5,895 metres (19,340 feet) to compare with Snowdon which measures in at 1,085 metres or 3,560 feet.
Stacey said: “The training has started, nice and slowly not too much at the start. I recently climbed the Glyderau mountain range and also I went halfway up Snowdon, I had to turn back due to the really weather bad conditions on the day.
“The fundraising has not really started in earnest yet, but I hope to be baking and selling a lot of cakes in the coming months and various other fundraising activities both at Pwllheli and Bangor. I have a target of £3,380 which I need to raise so I’m hoping everyone will support me in reaching my target and raise the money for Mind which is such a worthy cause.”
