Staff from Ystwyth Ward, the acute stroke ward at Bronglais Hospital, are climbing Yr Wyddfa to raise funds and awareness of strokes.
Staff Nurses, Health Care Support Workers, the Ward Clerk, Ward Sisters, Physiotherapists and an Occupational Therapist from the ward, along with family and friends, will be taking on the climb on 1 June this year.
Jackie Thomas, Ward Clerk, said: “We are raising money for rehabilitation equipment for Ystwyth Ward and making a donation to the Stroke Association.
“We wish to raise awareness of stroke in our local community and how important it is to act on the first signs of stroke.
“The money raised will help with patient recovery and rehabilitation.”
Nicola Llewellyn, Head of Hywel Dda Health Charities, said: “We’d like to say a massive thank you to staff from Ystwyth Ward for coming together to take on such a great challenge to raise funds and awareness.
“Best of luck to you all!
“The support of our local communities enables us to provide services over and above what the NHS can provide in the three counties of Hywel Dda and we are extremely grateful for every donation we receive.”
The team are hoping to reach their target of £5,000 , with all money raised donated to Ystwyth Acute Stroke Ward to purchase rehabilitation equipment and to the Stroke Association of Wales to support stroke survivors in the community.
The fund-raising has so far secured £420 as the team continue training and preparation for the climb.
Stroke is the fourth leading cause of death in the UK.
A total of 100,000 people have strokes each year in the UK and there are 1.3 million stroke survivors currently living in the UK.
