PARKING issues could be solved at Bronglais Hospital if hospital staff used a dedicated park and ride service instead of parking at the site, Ceredigion’s county director has claimed.
Hospital chiefs have said they are determined to solve the long-term problem of ensuring patients and visitors to the hospital can park at the site, especially with Ceredigion County Council poised to controversially axe Aberystwyth’s park and ride service at the end of August.
Matthew Willis, a member of the hospital’s interim management team, said he was already working to increase the number of parking spaces available for patients by working with staff and encouraging them not to take up spaces in the hospital’s multi-storey car park.
Hywel Dda Health Board’s Ceredigion county director Peter Skitt said he was “confident” that there were adequate parking spaces if staff who are not authorised to park at the site as part of their role, instead parked off-site.
He said: “It’s very clear to me there is enough parking for patients if staff park in the car park and use the park and ride which we provide for our own internal use."
