Some Aberystwyth roads will remain closed, while others are reopened, due to the “ongoing impacts” of recent adverse weather events.
Roads across Aberystwyth were closed on Friday, 18 February, when Storm Eunice battered mid Wales. They remained closed over the weekend as Ceredigion County Council assessed the damage, increased by Storm Franklin which came through on Sunday and Monday morning.
On Tuesday morning, the council confirmed the public sections of Marine Terrace, from the junction with Terrace Road towards Constitution Hill, and the whole of Victoria Terrace in Aberystwyth will remain closed.
All other streets that were closed have reopened, with potential localised closures on footways.
At 10.30am, two fire engines were present on Pier Street. The fire services have been asked about the incident but are yet to respond.
A spokesperson for Ceredigion County Council said: “The ongoing impacts of the recent weather events are continuing to be felt across Ceredigion.
“Due to the ongoing risks to the public sections of Marine Terrace (from the junction with Terrace Road towards Constitution Hill) and the whole of Victoria Terrace in Aberystwyth remain closed at this time.
“All the other streets that were closed in Aberystwyth are now being re-opened. However, there may continue to be localised closures to footways in the town as inspections continue and repair works begin.
“Property owners are reminded of their obligations and responsibility to inspect and make safe their properties.
“Fallen trees and other debris continue to be removed from the highway network across Ceredigion. The public should, therefore, continue to exercise extreme caution whenever are wherever they are out and about.
“We thank the public for their patience and understanding whilst we look to ensure their safety following the recent severe weather.”
