Madam,
I totally agree with Dafydd Edwards in last week’s Cambrian News regarding the need for more road safety measures in Llanon. How successful this latest measure will be remains to be seen.
As a matter of interest, when was the photograph taken? Hardly a car or pedestrian in sight.
I would like to know by whom and how is this limit going to be enforced? We have a 30mph limit already throughout our village and yet the majority, yes majority, of motorists do not adhere to the limit already in force.
The Welsh Government states: “This reduced speed limit is intended to apply for limited periods of the day...” As mentioned many times in this paper, residents have for many years complained about the speed of cars and lorries going at way above the limit resulting in near-misses of pedestrians and the killing of loved family pets because of speed.
As a regular user of public transport, I wait and watch in amazement at the way in which drivers ignore both the speed limit and the ban on using mobiles whilst driving.
In many residents’ opinion the only reason there are not more near-misses is the fact that parking is allowed at the roadside, impeding the road ahead and forcing drivers to slow down or stop.
It’s only the bus drivers who tend to keep to the limit and often get overtaken by impatient drivers unwilling to wait when the buses are stopping for passengers.
As well as this speed restriction during term-time, I would like to see either speed cameras, ‘sleeping policeman’ bumps or the road narrowed in places to allow only one car at a time to proceed.
Food for thought for Mr Edwards, the rest of the council and the Welsh Government transport department.
Yours etc,
Sue Slocombe, Cledan Cottage, Llanon.
