GWYNEDD Council’s Tidy Towns scheme arranged for pupils at 14 primary schools to meet the popular performers, Y Brodyr Gregory brothers and crew, who have been touring schools again this year with their environmental awareness roadshow.
The roadshow is now in its fourth year and highlights issues such as littering, dog fouling and the need to reduce, reuse and recycle waste.
The performances are light-hearted and entertaining with the brothers ably assisted by characters Tidy Ted and Eli Eco, together with the ever popular puppets Sion and Sian.
“The show is very much a fun-based event and you can see how much the children enjoy it. But with this entertainment comes environmental messages on litter and dog fouling, together with the importance of reducing, reusing and the recycling of domestic waste.”
Gwynedd Council’s Tidy Towns officer Jonathan Gwyn Neale added: “These shows give the children a rare opportunity to experience a live performance from professional entertainers at school.
”The children respond really well to the humour and slapstick aspects of the shows and I’m sure they’ll remember it – and the environmental messages – for the rest of their lives.”
Dilys Ellis-Jones, headteacher of Ysgol O M Edwards, Llanuwchllyn, said: “All the children – from reception class through to Year 6 – greatly enjoyed the show; a real fun show and the message came across very clearly. The staff and teachers also took part and enjoyed it too!
“They were a very professional crew who were more than happy to talk with everyone afterwards.”
Nia Wyn Williams, Ysgol Babanod Morfa Nefyn headteacher, added: “It was a lively, colourful and energetic show which highlighted an important Tidy Towns message to the children.”
Pupils at the school were also impressed: “The best show I ever saw!”said Nico Jones. “The characters were colourful and full of fun! I laughed my head off!” said Ela Pilkington; and Enfys Griffiths added: “I’ve learned a lot about the importance of recycling after seeing the show.”
On behalf of the brothers, Adrian Gregory said: “It’s been a pleasure to bring the environment roadshow again to schools in Gwynedd.
“The children were really enthusiastic and responded well once again to the subjects involved, which were delivered through songs and sketches with different characters highlighting key issues. Our aim is to provide an entertaining and humorous performance but with very important educational messages within the content.”
The schools that recently had an opportunity to enjoy the roadshow were: Ysgol Abererch; Ysgol Bro Tegid and Beuno Sant, Y Bala; Ysgol Borth y Gest; Ysgol Bro Idris, in the Dolgellau area; Ysgol Bro Plenydd, Y Ffôr; Ysgol Crud y Werin, Aberdaron; Ysgol Gwaun Gynfi, Deiniolen; Ysgol Hafod Lon, which is located in Penrhyndeudraeth; Ysgol Llandygai; Ysgol Llanllechid; Ysgol Babanod Morfa Nefyn; Ysgol O M Edwards, Llanuwchllyn; Ysgol Talsarnau; and Ysgol Waunfawr.
