WELSH Water has invested £28 million on new water treatment works at Dolbenmaen, near Porthmadog.
The water company says the investment will ensure that customers in Dwyfor continue to receive a first class drinking water supply for decades to come.
The new treatment works at Dolbenmaen replaces the old works up at Cwmystradllyn which was built in 1954, but continues to extract water from Cwmystradllyn reservoir.
To do this, 5.8 killometers of new mains have been laid to carry water from the reservoir to works.
The new treatment works, which have been built in the style of agricultural buildings so they blend into the surroundings, was commissioned in October and uses up-to-date equipment and process ensuring over 44,000 homes and businesses in the area receive high quality drinking water.
