Portmeirion is the second most Instagrammable village in the UK, according to property experts Bankrate.
As life under lockdown has left many city dwellers dreaming of escaping to the country, it’s only a matter of time before houses for sale in the UK’s prettiest villages are snapped up.
From the top of Scotland to the tip of Cornwall, Bankrate has found the top 20 prettiest villages in the UK.
Taking the top spot is Clovelly, a harbour village in Devon.
It has been captured on Instagram 134,353 times, according to analysis of hashtags.
Portmeirion, with 114,323 hashtags, is the runner-up.
Designed and built by Sir Clough Williams-Ellis, Portmeirion is well-known for Italian architecture and as the location for The Prisoner.
Castle Combe, a village within the Cotswolds Area of Natural Beauty in Wiltshire, is the third most Instagrammable village with 99,641 hashtags.
Castleton follows next with 91,848 hashtags, with Grasmere, a village in the centre of the Lake District, landing the number 5 spot with 87,367 hashtags.
Bankrate say the findings could indicate where people are currently thinking about travelling to as lockdown restrictions ease across the UK.
