POPPIES are being placed all around a Meirionnydd village to remember the fallen this Remembrance Sunday.

Poppies have been placed around Dyffryn Ardudwy and Talybont by volunteers so villagers can show their respects even in lockdown.

Dianna Tregenza, who came up with the idea said: “We all have memories and connections to those who served in both World Wars and those who still serve on the front line of our forces and services.

"Creating a visual representation of our thanks has been a really powerful and positive way for the whole community to come together from both villages, especially this year.

“The Village Hall Committee have worked hard in the last few years to improve the area and the War

Memorial and a photographic history of the names on the war memorial is hoped to be displayed in the Hall soon.”

Kate Moyce put poppies on a fence near to her home in Talybont. She said why the idea was important.

“I think it’s especially important to let our veterans know we support them as the remembrance services are all

cancelled due to Covid. It also unites the community.”

Patricia Lill is the Manager of the Dyffryn Ardudwy Village Hall. She said that the idea has given some people a sense of purpose during the firebreak lockdown in Wales.

“Small acts like the poppies make a huge difference to people in different ways. The people who have been making

them have had a purpose during this fire break. Many have relatives who served and have lost family in the line of duty."

She added: “The poppies are being placed by young and old, long time locals and newcomers so this is bringing

them together in another way during these strange times. It is a beautiful way to show our respect.”
