Ten Ceredigion youngsters are amongst the candidates hoping to win a place on the Welsh Youth Parliament.

Over 480 youngsters, aged between 11 and 18, are standing in the election for the parliament, with youngsters of the same age range able to vote electronically until the polls close at 5pm on Sunday, 25 November.

Potential voters are able to register until 16 November.

Ten candidates from across Ceredigion are standing to represent the county in the parliament with their details available on the Welsh Youth Parliament outlining their key priorities and ambitions for the future and what they hope they will be able to change through the parliament.

The ten candidates are Tom Kendall, Morgan Frith, Osian Thomas-Morgans, Molly Crombie, Nat Hall, Somachi Nwosu, Deiniol Bowen Jenkins, Caleb Rees, Harri Antoninis and Elain Roberts.

The potential Ceredigion representatives have identified a range of key issues they aim to address including issues in education such as school funding, special educational need equipment and the Welsh language, health concerns such as waiting lists and the lack of orthodontic provision, environmental issues including cutting plastic pollution, and training and employment opportunities.

Ceredigion AM Elin Jones, Llywydd of the National Assembly, said the Welsh Youth Parliament was an important way of ensuring the younger generation have a voice in policies and decisions for the future.

She said: “I am delighted that we can finally open the polls for the Welsh Youth Parliament.

“This is happening after years of planning and consultation with more than 5,000 young people across Wales and is a key part of how the National Assembly will involve the next generation in our work.

“I would urge anyone who is eligible and hasn’t registered to vote to visit the Welsh Youth Parliament website, to find out who is standing for election in their area and how they intend to represent you.”

Youngsters who are voted onto the Welsh Youth Parliament will serve a two-year term.
