CEREDIGION is in the top six performing authorities in Wales, according to Welsh Government data.

The National Strategic Indicators and Public Accountability report shows that performance over a range of services such as education, environment and housing in Ceredigion is either the best or it continues to improve.

Ceredigion has the second highest number of performance indicators in the top quarter compared to the other councils in Wales and for eight out of 23 indicators used for comparison, Ceredigion was ranked best in Wales.

For nine of the measures, Ceredigion’s performance improved compared to 2015/16. There was a slight drop in performance for nine of them and three were maintained.

Ceredigion’s performance is ranked ‘best in Wales’ in the categories of: every pupil aged 15 in the county left school, training or work based learning with at least one approved qualification; 70.5 per cent of pupils achieved the Level 2 threshold including a GCSE grade A*-C in English or Welsh first language and mathematics; all highways inspected were of a high or acceptable standard of cleanliness; 73 per cent of waste was prepared for reuse and/or recycled.

Cllr Ellen ap Gwynn, leader of the council, said: “It is pleasing to read the performance report 2016-17, demonstrating that Ceredigion County Council continues to provide high quality services despite the significant and continuing decrease in its budget.”
