The Plastic Planet shop has opened in in the empty Crown Stores at Lampeter.
The initiative by Plastic Free Lampeter and Lampeter Town Council was to raise awareness of the amount of plastic waste the town generated on Friday, 19 July.
In March, Lampeter was awarded Plastic Free Community status by Surfers Against Sewage.
As well as filling the window with plastic there was a competition to guess the amount of plastic in the window and a stall encouraging plastic-free use such as shampoo bars, bamboo toothbrushes and stainless steel razors.
A total of 56 households in Lampeter and the surrounding area each contributed one day’s worth of their plastic waste to the Plastic Planet Shop window, at Crown Stores, Market Street.
The purpose of The Plastic Planet Shop window display is to demonstrate the scale of Lampeter’s collective consumption of plastics from as many households as possible across the town in one single day, actively engage with Lampeter residents and to encourage people to find alternative solutions to everyday plastic consumption.
“We are still taking contributions so if any Lampeter resident wishes to add their one day’s worth of any plastic, recyclable and non-recyclable, please contact the Llambed Di Blastig - Plastic Free Lampeter Facebook page and we will get your plastic waste into the window,” said a spokesperson.
“We are also running a competition to guess how many items of plastic waste there are in the window.
“You can get your entry forms and post your entry in store in Sainsburys. We have some fantastic prizes to be won, including a hamper of plastic free alternatives donated by local businesses.”
