RESIDENTS had the opportunity this week to view plans and have their say on a proposed new railway station and transport hub in Bow Street.

Following years of campaigning and discussions between the Welsh Government, the Mid Wales Rail Implementation Group, Ceredigion County Council, and the rail industry, a public consultation was held at Rhydypennau Hall on Monday.

The original Bow Street railway station closed as a result of the Beeching cuts in the 1960s, and if built, the new station would be located a short distance south of the original location, which is now the site of the Huws Gray builders’ merchants.

The station would include a ‘public transport interchange’, featuring a park-and-ride facility for 100 cars, a layover area for buses and coaches, and a bicycle parking amenity.

At the event, outline drawings of the development were on show, and staff were on hand to answer questions and receive comments.

Bow Street councillor, Paul Hinge, said he was “delighted” with the progress of the project, and encouraged all residents to come along and have their say.

Cllr Hinge told the Cambrian News: “I am delighted that this project is moving on at pace and would urge all those interested parties to come along and view and discuss what’s on the table and perhaps bring suggestions.

“This project has so much to give north Ceredigion and we must ensure it delivers what is needed.”
