PLANS for the switching-on of the Aberystwyth Christmas lights have been finalised.
The big switch-on will take place on Friday, 27 November and will feature over £2,400 in new lights purchased this year by Aberystwyth Town Council.
The lights, being put up local contractor Tom Edwards, will be switched on by Aberystwyth mayor Cllr Endaf Edwards.
Councillors heard a meeting last Monday that plans for the event are “well in hand” and again will feature the annual lantern parade through town from St Michael’s Church.
For the event, Baker Street will be closed all day to host a Christmas market.
Ahead of the lantern parade a number of lantern making workshops will be held in the Old College on 14/15 and 21/22 November from 11am to 4pm.
The events are run jointly with Menter Aberystwyth.
Finalised details for all the arrangements will be made at a meeting of the town council’s Christmas committee this week.
