ABERYSTWYTH’S former tourist information centre could be turned into a bar after being sold to developers.
Ceredigion council agreed the sale of the former TIC building, Lisburne House on Bath Street, to developers AVE properties in December after it was put on the market for £295,000.
In April, Ceredigion County Council planners ruled that the upper floors of the building can be converted into five apartments, while developers hoped to find a tenant to lease the lower floors which housed the actual TIC.
An application has now been submitted to Ceredigion council seeking a change of use to house a “coffee house, wine and cocktail bar”.
While a new premises licence will be needed before the plans get the go-ahead, Aberystwyth Town Council has raised a number of concerns over the plan.
The town council, in response to the application called for the “strongest sound proofing to be used to protect the flats above from bar noise below” and that “adequate waste storage is provided”.
The council also called on the developers to preserve the dragon relief on the outside wall “as part of the character of the building within a conservation area”.
“The council has no problem with it being moved along the wall to make room for the new window,” the council added.
Work at Lisburne House will start after the completion of work to revamp and extend Ceredigion Museum in the former Boots building further down the road.
