A major revamp of Plascrug Leisure Centre is still being planned and at an early stage, despite council chiefs allocating more than £700,000 for the scheme.
The council’s capital programme contains the funding which is earmarked for work at the leisure centre, but a council spokesperson said there are no detailed plans at the moment and work is still ongoing.
The council wants to make changes at the leisure centre to make it suitable to provide “other related services and provisions”, but so far has no detailed plans.
A spokesperson said that the revamp would see services “linked to health and well-being”, but that options are currently being considered and that the £700,000 allocated in the capital programme is “only an estimate” and that if work does not start in this financial year, that money will roll over to next year’s capital programme.
The spokesperson said: “We are in the process of developing possible options for consideration to adapt inefficient spaces at Plascrug Leisure Centre, in order for it to be available as a resource for other related services and provisions.
“This approach will ensure efficient and effective use of resources.”
