A PLANNING application for a controversial bypass has been submitted.

The Llanbedr bypass, or ‘access road’, has caused much debate in the village, with many people both for against the proposal.

Opponents of the plan believe the loss of through-traffic will negatively affect trade in Llanbedr and that the new road will be unsightly and noisy.

Proponents believe the new access road will make their village safer and boost industry in the area, encouraging new businesses to invest in the area, especially the Snowdonia Aerospace Centre.

Speaking on the proposal, submitted last week, a Gwynedd Council spokesperson said: “Gwynedd Council has submitted a planning application for a new access road in Llanbedr as part of the Snowdonia Enterprise Zone initiative.

“Considerable effort was made early in the planning stage to engage with the local community by holding a number of drop-in sessions.

“During this process, the project team aimed to fully understand the concerns and viewpoints of everyone in the community.

“The application submitted has taken into consideration the effects of a new road on the community, the environment and the economy.”See this week's north editions for the full story, in shops and online now
