An Instagram page, set up to promote local photographers, has turned its attention to community support during the coronavirus crisis.

We Love Aberystwyth is run by local photographers, Jonny Evans and Matt Wilby.

The page was set up around two years ago by Jonny, with the aim of providing a platform for local photographers to share their work, and now has more than 5,700 followers.

The two photographers have decided to use their platform to support the local community during the Covid-19 pandemic.

Matt said: “We thought that, given the relative success and reach of the page, alongside the various great people we both knew who we thought could help us, there was something we could and should do to try to help the community.”

Jonny and Matt have been working closely with Gwe Cambrian Web, who have provided their services for free; hosts of local businesses and “too many individuals to thank in one place”, to launch the site and publicise their efforts.

They said they want to keep the site free for everyone, to help businesses and the local community find local services, and try to support the physical and mental wellbeing.

Matt added: “We want to add more to the project as time goes on.

“We are now asking for people to send in photographs of rainbow drawings by them or their children, so they get seen by more people.

“On 10 April we hosted our first quiz on Instagram and are looking to include a way to donate through our website to help local Covid-related charitable causes alongside other ideas we can hopefully get off the ground.”

On Tuesday, 14 April, We Love Aberystwyth set up a JustGiving page to raise money for NHS staff at Bronglais Hospital, Jubilee Storehouse Foodbank, Mind Aberystwyth and West Wales Domestic Abuse Service.
