THE owners of a family-run Christian adventure centre in Arthog have raised over £6,500 for its upkeep.

Min y Don Christian Adventure Centre celebrates 60 years this year and owners Peter and Susie Cook and their daughter Beth, marked the occasion with a mammoth 60km run over six days.

Peter said the Three Score challenge went very well.

He said: “Susie and Beth ran six runs of 10 kilometres whilst I did the distance on a rowing machine.

“We’ve had a fantastic response from people donating. We’ve been very blessed and humbled by everyone’s support.

“We set a target of £6,000 and we are pleased to announce we have achieved this. In fact, we are currently on £6,500. The makes the effort worthwhile. It is an amazing amount.

“We have also had lots of messages from people wishing the centre all the best in its 60th year.”

He added: “The money will be used towards the upkeep of the centre. We rely on groups coming to stay and we went 16 months without being able to have any stay.

“We’ve recently had two school groups stay and we will hopefully have families staying over as the school holidays arrive.

“The fundraising will help keep the centre afloat, which is why we are so grateful to people for donating.”

The centre supports a Cardiff-based charity providing holidays for families in need.

Peter added: “We have been very proud and privileged to be the Welsh location for the charity Care for the Family, which provides holidays for single-parent families who may have never had a chance to go on holiday.

“Some of the families go to England and Scotland, but we are their location in Wales and have been for 20 years.

“It has been a pleasure and a privilege to be a part of their work.

“This is why 10 per cent of whatever the final total is of the fundraiser will go towards the charity and the work they do.”
