A LANTERN parade held in Cardigan as part of the town’s Festive Fortnight has been hailed a success.

The event saw over 1,000 people lining the streets with over 250 lanterns and 350 people in the procession which included music.

Sam Vicary, the managing director of Small World Theatre which built the flying dove which led the parade, said the event was the biggest of its kind seen in Cardigan.

Sam said: “The lantern parade was a huge success and an amazing evening with over 1,000 people lining the streets to watch the parade. There were over 250 lanterns and 350 in the procession accompanied by brilliant drummers, accordion and pipes.

“The eisteddfod theme went down really well and inspired giant crown lanterns and musical instruments made by students at Ysgol Uwchradd Aberteifi and Small World Theatre."

She added: "We don’t think that Cardigan and the surrounding areas have ever seen a lantern parade or even a procession on this scale. The turn out was compared to Barley Saturday, which is amazing for a first event.”
