A film by a young boy from Cardigan will be broadcast on S4C this Friday after he triumphed in a national competition.

Films by three children from Wales will broadcast on S4C this week as part of the See Yourself on Screen project.

One of the films, Bachgen yn erbyn Natur (Boy versus Nature), is by 10-year-old Osian Oyibo-Goss from Cardigan. Osian’s film will be broadcast on S4C’s Stwnsh at 5pm Friday, 10 July.

The project is organised by the British Film Institute (BFI), a charity that promotes and preserves film and television production in the UK.

Osian’s film was chosen by the BFI as part of their national competition, See Yourself on Screen.

The competition, run through the Young Audiences Content Fund, called on children across the UK to create and appear in a two-minute television programme reflecting on their personal experiences of the Covid-19 lockdown.

Fifteen winners have received virtual masterclasses from professional presenters. Popular presenter Owain Williams mentored the three winners in the Welsh language category.

The fifteen creations will premiere on the See Yourself on Screen partner channels – Channel 5’s Milkshake! CITV, E4 and TG4, and the Welsh language winners will broadcast on S4C between 8-13 July.

Osian is one of the three winners in the Welsh language category, open to 8 to 13-year-olds.

Bachgen yn erbyn Natur sees a young boy take on the world of nature, setting himself challenges and physical goals.

“This was an opportunity to share how I have fun amongst nature on my own,” Osian explained.

“But it also shows other kids how they can have fun outside.”

Sioned Wyn Roberts, S4C’s Content Commissioner said: “It has been a pleasure to be part of this scheme. It has given a platform to young people, whose lives have changed significantly due to lockdown.

“We were thrilled to see the high standard of filming and editing, as well as all the fun ideas; it was extremely difficult to choose winners.

“With so much young talent in Wales, the future of the creative industries is certainly secure. Hopefully viewers of Stwnsh will enjoy the films.”
