THE original Mary Jones Bible returned to Bala briefly over the weekend.
The event was arranged by the Bala and Penllyn Bible Society Local Action Group which has the aim of offering a unique opportunity for everyone to see the priceless original Mary Jones Bible.
The Bible left Bala in Mary’s hands over 215 years ago and the Bible is now kept in the Bible Society’s archives at Cambridge University.
The keeper of the Bible, Dr Onesimus Ngundu, shows the precious book to people from all over the world who visit Cambridge to see Bibles in their own language and Dr Ngundu draws attention to Mary Jones’ Bible by noting that they wouldn’t have the text in their native language without this unique Bible.
During his visit, Dr Ngundu, with assistance from officials of the Bala and Penllyn Bible Society Local Action Group, took the Bible to local primary schools so that the children could see the Bible for the first time.
They also visited the area where Mary Jones was raised and there was a special service held at Tegid Chapel to welcome the Bible back to Bala.
