Regarding my efforts to have the Welsh Government consider an alternative Dyfi Bridge route I have not asked for a complete bypass of Machynlleth only a partial bypass from the northern A487.

Over 67 per cent of the traffic entering the town does so from the east A489 and passes down the high street so would not be affected by a partial bypass.

I think the fears of some people in Mach that a partial bypass would have an adverse effect on trade are unfounded as this has not proven so in other towns - Dolgellau and Porthmadog for instance.

The minister Ken Skates comments that an alternative route would cause a three or four-year delay but surely the most important consideration for future generations is to build the bridge in the right place as it will be there for the next 150-200 years. It is very surprising he also places economic concerns for Machynlleth over the needs of people from south Gwynedd who need to access vital hospital service in Aberystwyth and Carmarthen.

I have asked to meet with the minister on numerous occasions to press the case for the people of south Gwynedd and show how a partial bypass would also bring great benefit to the town of Machynlleth but he has refused all my requests. I will continue to petition the Welsh Government as this is so vital to future generations of people in south Gwynedd.
